Recently, I spent the afternoon fusing my new Modernity fabrics. Modernity {link} is my new collection of 80+ designs. This was a 2-year effort. I re-imagined the scale and colors on my favorite designs from earlier collections. These collections include Luxury, Home, and Future Code. There are a 1-2 fabrics that I didn’t design but make good coordinating fabrics.
My plan is to make some mosaic pieces highlighting these beautiful fabrics. Usually, I cut the fabrics. Then, I position them onto a large cut of Pellon fusible interface. I use this as my substrate. This time I’m fusing all of the fabrics first. That way I can position them onto a piece of muslin which will be my substrate. In the photos below, I’m ironing on a fusible adhesive called Heat ‘n Bond Lite to the fabrics I’ve selected. This prepping of the fabrics (aka fusing first) takes more work. It ultimately makes it easier in the long run for the piece. Since the pieces will already be fused, they can be attached to a muslin backing. They can also be overlapped with each other.

First, I cut pieces of fabrics that I want to use. Next, I position them down on the Heat ‘n Bond roll. Then, I cut pieces of the Heat ‘n Bond adhesive. It came on a 5-1/4″ yard roll. The roll is 17″ wide. When attaching the adhesive, I was careful to overlap the fabric on the adhesive. Next, I used an iron on the hottest setting without steam. I then let it cool for a few minutes while I do the next piece of fabric.

I really like the Heat ‘n Bond fusible as the adhesive releases very quickly. I was really pleased with how easy the Heat ‘n Bond peel back from the fabric.
Here are more photos of the process with fusing the fabrics. It went pretty fast! I’ve included the link to the Heath ‘n Bond on Amazon in the Resources below.

Here’s all the fabrics done with the Heat ‘n Bond adhesive. I had to cool them down to stack them on top of each other. They stacked fine and I can store them as well. Some people roll them up to store them.
