A skinny scarf and hat set uses soft, curly yarn. The patterns are very straightforward to make because they only use single and double crochet stitches.

Yarn. The pattern uses Lion Brand’s Homespun Collection (Blue Moon). The hat uses 1 skein (185-yds) of the yarn while the scar uses 2-1/2 skeins of the yarn. The weight is classified as a #5 Bulky. The yarn is a beautifully gradiated blend of very light blue to dark sky blue, curled and twisted.

Hat
For the hat, use a 6.5mm crochet needle with 1 skein of the yarn. The patterns is Red Heart’s Yarnspiration website. The City Sophisticate Hat pattern can be downloaded as a free PDF file.

The hat is straightforward and took me 2 hours to make. You will use mainly single crochet stitches. The pattern includes 21 rounds. Add 2 additional rows of double crochet. Finish it off with a final row of single crocheting. The hat measures 26″ around the head. Note: The pattern has an adjustment to 30″ around, which is not hard at all.

Scarf
The scarf is long, skinny at 43″ long and only 8-3/4″ wide. To start the scarf, you chain just 21 stitches. Then, do 100 rows of double crocheting to achieve the height. The fringe is 9-1/2″ high which is longer and goes well with this skinny scarf.
This hat and scarf set is an attractive color and will be great for the cooler fall temperatures. The scarf can be double wrapped around the neck. I’m planning to wear it with a vest in the fall. Then, I’ll wear the hat and coat with my favorite coat for the winter months.
