I recently organized my yarn and fibers into the top shelving in my closet. The top shelving consists of storage crates which are turned on their side and stackable. I love this setup because the crates are extremely portable and move easily. I color code my yarns with browns, blues, greys for the fall season.

I purchase yarns in 2- and 3-packs. I really enjoy working with 4-6 weight yarns in my projects. The finer yarns are really not my favorite. I have Carpal Tunnel in my hands. The smaller crochet needles exacerbate this condition.
The yarn and fibers share the space with my finished quilts. Some of the quilts are rolled on top of the crates. I use clear plastic bags and unscented trash bags for them. Protecting the quilts from dust is important so some kind of storage bags are good for them. Most of these quilts are smaller wall hangings up to 40″ wide so I roll them.

At the bottom of the closet are Banker’s boxes of larger quilts that have been folded up. The top two Banker’s boxes contain refill yarns of other colors. They are for projects in the Spring and Summer months.
At the bottom of the closet are the cubbies for my fabrics. These include bolts of fabric (white, black, acrylic felt, batting), poster board templates, and my sewing machines. Right now, I maintain 3 sewing machines. I first learned on a Brother machine and continue to use these so that I can exchange the accessories.
