[DIGITAL ART] Learning Procreate

Let me start by saying that I am a die-hard Adobe Photoshop power user. I taught myself Photoshop every Friday afternoon back when it was version 3. The introduction of Layers was a total game changer in that program and later on in other graphic programs.

Back in the days, I worked as a freelance photo retoucher and taught Photoshop in my college level multimedia class. I even attended annual Adobe Photoshop conferences. They were given by Scott Kelby’s National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), which is now KelbyOne. I even attended the party fest, Photo World, which for me was a definitely bucket list item.

In comes Procreate…

When I first saw Procreate, I KNEW this was a game changer for so many reasons. First off, it is on an iPad and so it is portable. Next, it is free and of minimal cost. Next, it passed my 30 minute test in that I could get something done without really knowing anything. I actually complete my first Procreate painting in less than 10 minutes!

I was so impressed. I searched YouTube for a Procreate art lesson. I found a channel for producing modern abstract art with Procreate. The channel is run by a UK art company called FlowWorks.

From a FlowWorks tutorial, I made this piece in a matter of 15 minutes!

I loved my early results from Procreate. So, this summer, I tasked myself with delving more into this wonderfully doable program. I searched through many materials on the Web. In my opinion, I found the easiest and most straightforward instructional material available.
