I recently made and sent 6″ square mini quilts. They were for a recent RoCo 6 x 6 show. The show was organized by the Rochester Contemporary Art Center in Rochester, New York. This was my second time successfully selling work at this show. This year’s show had 6000 entries in it. I sent off 4 works and sold 1 of them. I consider this a success given the many, many number of entries.

The RoCo show was primarily for small works, no more than 6″ square. At the time, I had a batch of 45 old surface designs printed at Spoonflower. Some of the designs were actually new from my 2023 Modernity collection.
So, I cut 4 of the prints down to 6″ square canvases. I chose older designs from my first surface design, Luxury. The designs are Luxury and Safari in two different colorations. I wanted to use up some of my older designs and also wanted the designs and colorations to be complimentary. Using green, bronze and turquoise as a palette, I then chose complementary binding fabrics.

Sewing the bindings on was straightforward but required a bit of precision since these attached bindings would show from the front when the piece is wrapped around a canvas.

I love the finished products here. These mini quilts showcase my digital designs and offer people the chance to purchase something smaller and affordable from my studio. This is great because usually textile works such as quilts often have to be priced higher due to materials and the amount of labor to create pieces.

I’m really happy with these works and how they came out. This looks like a good conduit for showcasing my digital fabric.
